Welcome to my 6th episode of 15mins Home Food! Today we are making roast chestnuts. Just to make it clear, although the total cooking time is about 35 mins, the time you actually need to work is less than 15mins. I see lots of chestnuts are being put into the stores recently in the UK, they were put next to all the Christmas stuff. Is chestnut a Christmas traditional nut? Please let me know in the comments below! Roast chestnuts are very popular in China, they are common popular street food. Below is my attempt to bring Chinese street food style into life.

Ingredientroast chestnut

Chestnuts, oil, honey

Steps

  1. Clean all the chestnuts and then use a knife to make a slit into the skin of each nut.
  2. Put all the prepared nuts into a pan, add enough hot water just to cover all the nuts. Boil it for 3mins.
  3. Drain the water and move all the chestnuts into a baking tray, bake it at 210°C /410°F for 25mins. You can stop here and enjoy your chestnuts, but if you want to make them to look more pretty, follow the step below.
  4. Add a little bit oil in the pan and coat all the chestnuts with some oil. You can also add some honey if you want chestnuts to have some sweetness to it. Ready to serve.

Here is a video version of what I just wrote above 🙂 Watch it if you have unlimited internet or wifi. Printer-able recipe is at the bottom of the post.
